Medical Treatments: Antihistamine, non-sedative
Non-sedative or second generation antihistamines include loratidine (Claritin), desloratidine (Clarinex), fexofenadine (Allegra), and cetirizine (Zyrtec). They are used in the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis and other allergic conditions. Loratidine has an indication for use in urticarial conditions. All of these medications are considered less sedative than their 'first-generation' counterparts such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) and chlorpheniramine (Chlortrimeton).
